Nicki Minaj is usually a girl's girl, with her badass rap songs and empowering lyrics. The 33-year-old star, though, has stepped out of bounds.

Minaj took to Instagram to share a video of herself sitting in a car on the side of the road in Miami Beach. The rapper is seen talking out the window at a woman who appears to have a mental illness. In the video, the "Black Barbies" singer is seen mocking the woman who is yelling at her, for reasons that aren't exactly clear. "Miss, what did I do? Can we talk?" she said, laughing. She captioned the video with a crying face emoji.

Minaj's followers quickly commented on the video, criticizing her for her insensitive post. Some even went so far as to claim they are local residents of Miami, and indeed know that the woman has mental issues. "This is what promotes bullying your famous and have kids who look up to you. You want to make fun of people don't post it to show the world how ignorant you are!", one commenter wrote. Others came to Minaj's defense, claiming there is no proof of the woman's mental state. The Miami New Times reports that the woman is a "regular" on the streets of South Beach, often seen smoking cigarettes in high-traffic areas. Many believe her to be one of the many homeless residents of the beach-side city.

Regardless, the video has become such a controversy that the National Alliance on Mental Illness got wind of it, and issued a statement to TMZ. "Nobody would make fun of a cancer patent, and mental illness is an illness like any other," a rep for the organization told the site, adding that Minaj, who has 69.7 million Instagram followers, used her fame in a negative manner."

The video is surprising and confusing for yet another reason: Back in October, Minaj called out the media's double standard of women of color and those with curves. "When Kim Kardashian's naked picture came out, [Sharon Osbourne] praised it, and my fans attacked her for being such a hypocrite," she said. "So it wasn't trashy and raunchy when a white woman did it, but it was when a black woman did it? It's quite pathetic and sad, but that is my reality, and I've gotten accustomed to just shutting it down," she told Marie Claire
