One of Naya Rivera’s dreams will soon come true!
As we previously reported, the part-Puerto Rican actress will have Gloria Estefan play her mother on Glee. In an interview with Hollywood Life, 24-year-old Rivera said she met the legendary Cuban American singer on the set of the hit FOX show before Estefan was cast as her character’s mami.
“When I found out Gloria Estefan was going to play the part of my mom, I was so excited,” Rivera said. “I couldn’t believe it. It was like a dream come true! My mom loves her. I love her. She is a really incredible person and singer.” In Glee, Rivera plays Santana Lopez – a gay cheerleader at fictional McKinley High School.
Rivera also spoke about teen pop star Justin Bieber, who she said she would rather date instead of Twilight hottie Robert Pattinson. Why she would ever pass on Pattinson is beyond us, but Rivera told Hollywood Life that Bieber could teach her how to dance. “I have never met Justin,” Rivera said, “but I would like to!”
Speaking of Bieber, Rivera will soon join him and other stars for several new Proactiv TV spots. The actress is the newest spokesperson for the topical treatment, which she used back in high school. “I am excited to be a part of a show that encourages teens and young adults to embrace their differences and be proud of who they are as an individual, which is exactly why I am honored to represent Proactiv,” Rivera said in a statement.
Rivera didn’t have the best time in high school. “I felt really alone. I had no confidence and didn’t feel like I could fit in. I had my family and they were my support system,” she said. “It’s really important to reach out if you are being bullied in school or feel alone. There are so many places you can go to for support. You never have to be alone.”
