Miss Spain in both 2008 and 2013, Patricia Yurena, came out as lesbian in a historic move that makes her the first openly gay national beauty queen.

Yurena, the first runner-up for the Miss Universe crown in 2013, revealed her sexuality in a super-romantic Instagram photo that featured her and her girlfriend, Spanish DJ Vanesa Klein. The caption read, "Romeo and Juliet."

The 24-year-old beauty queen told La Opinion de Tenerife that she does not regret making the photos public. "I did it because I am happy about what's going on in my life," she said.

The photo quickly garnered thousands of likes on the photo-sharing network. Yurena thanked her fans for their support in a touching message just a few days later.

"I published [the photo] quite naturally and impulsively," she wrote. "I appreciate the outpouring of support and even more rejoice in my happiness. Thank you!"
