Michelle Rodriguez Picked Her Own Prosthetic Penis for Controversial Film 'The Assignment'

Michelle Rodriguez's upcoming role in "The Assignment" has certainly garnered much criticism, way before it even hits theaters. The actress plays Frank Kitchen, a transgender hitwoman who is involuntarily given sexual reassignment surgery by a “rogue surgeon” called The Doctor. The film tells the story of what happens when Rodriguez’s character sets out to seek revenge after receiving this botched, “forced” surgery.

The film is under the microscope for the way it portrays sexual reassignment surgery, and the transgender experience overall. And now, according to reports, Rodriguez picked the "cock" she'd be sporting in the movie's nude scenes, and, again, we're scratching our heads.

“I was like, ‘I want the biggest cock we could possibly get!’" Rodriguez told The Hollywood Reporter.  "I was adamant about it. I’ve encountered a few skinny boys with really, really big — you know — so I thought, why not be one?"

Rodriguez also spilled that she created a Tinder account for her fake male character. "It was so funny. Got some matches!" she joked.

Though the star's choice seems to be harmless and fun, it reduces the transgender experience to a joke, which, aside from being messed up, is common and tired in Hollywood.

Sigourney Weaver, who stars alongside Rodriguez, is defending the movie's anti-trans notions. “I actually think with some of the controversy about the movie — when people see the movie, they’ll see what it’s about and what it’s not about. Certainly from my point of view, what my character does to Frank Kitchen is unforgivable. And it certainly demonstrates the pain of being forcibly put into the wrong body. There’s nothing more cruel.” Rodriguez, too, continually defends her role and explained that she's bisexual, herself, and would never intentionally harm the LGBT community.

However, just because someone's identity is marginalized does not mean that they cannot be complicit in the oppression of another marginalized group — and this film, and the strange behaviors that keep coming out of it, are proof of that. We love you, Michelle, and hope you can soon understand that.
