Mariah Carey Named Judge on American Idol

The rumors turned out to be true! Mariah Carey is set to take the judge spot on American Idol, replacing Jennifer Lopez, reports EW. The pop diva will join for season 12. Her salary is expected to be somewhere between $12 million (the same salary paid to J.Lo during her first year on the show) and $17 million.

After Fox was unable to keep Jennifer for another season (with rumors that they didn't meet her salary demands), Mariah will soon be known as the new pop diva among the judges.

Randy Jackson is still expected to stay on board for the next season, though nothing has been officially announced. Either way, they'll need at least one more judge to round out the table. Might we recommend some?

Last year, the Fox series suffered the largest ratings drop in the show's history, down 23 percent. Though the show is still huge, with more than 18 million viewers a week.
