Mariah Carey may be showered with affection and love everywhere she goes now, but the 40-year-old singer says she didn't always fit in.
In a recent interview, the pregnant singer revealed that growing up in a mixed race household (her father is African-American and Venezuelan and her mother is Irish) made her feel like an outcast, but the singer adds that she's happy that her child (or children?), will be born in more "diverse" times.
"Having Obama in office and bringing a child into the world at this point is totally different than me feeling like an outcast when I was growing up and not feeling like it was okay to be ethnically diverse," said Carey. "I can't believe that we have arrived at this point within society."
