For the first time in Latina magazine's 15-year history, a mother and daughter are sharing the cover! In the May issue, the regional Mexican music mogul and her daughter Chiquis open up about building a family empire and having their family life filmed for their hit reality show, I Love Jenni. The Latina cover shoot will be prominently featured in the new episode, airing Saturday, April 9th at 2 p.m. on mun2.
Here's a sneak peek at the what mother and daughter had to say about working together and overcoming all the obstacles that have come their way as a family.
On raising kids as a single mom: “I draw strength from that. If I didn’t have these kids, I wouldn’t be who I am. I have to show them how to fight, how to love and how to make it in life. I’m going to leave them set.”
On limiting herself: “I have a to-do list in life, and on that list there’s nothing called failure. [This career] turned into a big snowball that people think I can’t get out of, but I don’t want to be 50, 60, 70 years old and still on stage.”
On drama: “I wish I could be like Mary J. Blige, ‘no more drama.’ I’m always done with it but drama’s not done with me. I’m used to it.”
On openness at home: “There is nothing we can’t talk about. My mom is very open, so if I’m walking out the door, she’s like, ‘Okay, go have fun, but don’t come back pregnant. Use a condom!’”
On her relationship with mom: “My mom is my ride-or-die bitch, and I’m hers, ‘cause no matter what happens, we’re there for each other.”
