On battling depression: At one point, Ramirez could barely muster up the energy to get out of bed and go to the set of Grey’s “Somehow I managed to do it, but it wasn’t pretty. There were days that I would show up to work and come out the side of my face to people who didn’t deserve it.”

On body issues: “There’s a whole list of things you could worry about.  Are you skinny enough?  Talented enough?  In all kinds of ways, I used to be really, really hard on myself.”

On Grey’s Anatomy troubled past: “[I found myself] in the midst of a hurricane.  So much time on Grey’s was spent just trying to figure out what kind of family I was walking into.  There was so much drama and so much time wasted focusing on the wrong things.”

On being different: “I’ve never been very cookie cutter. If I choose something different from the status quo, it’s my responsibility and my choice to live my life that way.”
