While on set for the new issue of Elle, Gomez named two role models: Selena Quintanilla and Britney Spears. “To me, they represented the idol… the woman. Britney was younger, so she was someone I kind of looked up to, and Selena had passed so I felt like she was an icon to me.” Aw, Selenita, many young girls look up to you too! (We kind of hope you don’t go the Britney route, though.)
With pipes like hers, it makes sense that Aguilera cites Etta James as her role model. She’s told reporters many times that she loved listening to James growing up, and when the singer passed earlier this year, she sang a tribute at her funeral, covering James’ famous song “At Last.”
“She was the one that cut right through my soul. So tonight, Etta, this song is for you,” she said.
Alba knows a good role model when she sees one, even if that role model is considered among her peers: “My role model is Angelina Jolie. She’s so beautiful and has an incredible career. People talk more about her film career and her humanitarian work than about her looks.” We love seeing women recognizing other women for their awesome accomplishments!
A young role model herself, Lovato looks up to not one, but two Latinas in the spotlight: “There are people like Rosario Dawson and Eva Longoria and, not only are they just some of the sweetest women you’ll ever meet, but they’re actually doing things, charitable things.” We must say, Lovato is growing up to be quite the wise Latina.
Cruz may be a household name now, but it was another movie icon that got her into acting: Meryl Streep. ““When I first started watching movies and I saw Meryl’s work, that’s when I became obsessed with acting. Now I kiss her whenever I see her! She must think I’m crazy.” Oh, Penelope, no one thinks you’re loca for loving Meryl Streep. Honestly, who doesn’t?
