Jessica Alba’s business venture, The Honest Company, launched its website (www.honest.com) on Tuesday. The website and company, founded by the part-Mexican actress and mother of two, sells eco-friendly household products meant for a safe home with a monthly subscription fee, reports Zap2It.com.
“When I was pregnant three-and-a-half years ago with my daughter, Honor, I started researching how to have a safe home. I was shocked to learn how many dangerous chemicals were in the products I used, including many I had assumed were safe,” Alba says.
One example of a product that sparked the idea for the company was a laundry detergent made specifically for babies that incidentally made Alba herself break out into a rash. She says, “If it had that effect on me, I didn't want to use it anywhere near my infant daughter. There are many studies that suggest a link between chemicals found in many of the everyday products we use and diseases including cancer, asthma and ADHD.”
Alba also adds, “Most eco-friendly companies don't have a high volume, so they can cost 3 to 4 times as much as what we're offering. We aren't going to be the cheapest, but we're certainly not the most expensive.” The Honest Company offers family packs and baby bundles that range in price from $35.95 to $79.95 respectively. The website also offers a free trial so that parents can decide if they like the products.
A portion of the proceeds from The Honest Company will support Baby2Baby, a non-profit organization that provides baby supplies to lower income families.
