Jennifer Lopez Talks Depression, Breastfeeding and Scientology

No wonder Jennifer Lopez wanted this story killed. The uber-private star suffered a lapse of brutal honesty during an interview a couple of months ago, during which she spoke candidly about everything from suffering a nervous breakdown on the set of her film Enough, to how she really feels about Scientology, a religion to which her father and several of her close friends belong.

Rumor has it that once she realized she had said too much, Jennifer asked the magazine who commissioned the interview (perhaps it's the one that rhymes with "Belle"?) to put the kibosh on the story, but the wiley interviewer ended up selling it to the Daily Beast.

Here are the highlights:

On why she resisted getting a nanny for so long: "I still can't stand the sound of my babies crying without tending to them myself."

On whether she breastfeeds her twins: "No. Some people are radical about it. But to each his own. I'd rather not discuss it. It's a whole other thing. If you want to go off-the-record I'll tell you."

On postpartum depression:
"People kept prepping me for it, but it didn't happen. At the tenth day after giving birth all that chemical stuff did peak - that hormone thing - and I did cry a lot that day because I was having so much trouble moving. I couldn't get up fast enough to feed the babies. Marc was helping out a lot and I was crying and crying and going, 'Oh, Papi...they're going to know everybody more than me. They're going to love everybody more than me!'"

On suffering a nervous breakdown several years ago on the set of Enough: "I don't get nervous. I don't get depressed. Blah blah blah...There was a time when I was very overworked and I was doing music and movies and so many things. I was suffering from a lack of sleep. And I did have a kind of nervous breakdown. I froze up on a set. I was like, 'I don't want to move. I don't want to talk. I don't want to do anything.' Yeah. I did. I had a nervous breakdown."

On whether she's influenced by Scientology: "I do know a lot about Scientology. And I know about the practices. I know all about what the technology is and all that kind of stuff. It's very helpful. So in a sense, yeah, you do call on it. [If I were a Scientologist] I wouldn't have a problem saying it because I know what it is. I have no problems with it and it really actually bothers me that people have such a negative feeling towards it."

On the $6 million sale of her baby photos to a weekly magazine: "I think one of the reasons that the price went so high is that we didn't want to do it for so long. We weren't into it. I was like, 'No, I don't really want to. No. No way.' But then it got to the point that you go, 'Well, now you're being stupid with these offers.'I thought I can set [the twins] up. I can put this away just for them. We gave a little bit [to charity] and I saved the rest for them."

On being named the 9th Richest Woman in Entertainment by
Forbes: "I wouldn't believe everything I read."
