Jennifer Lopez just signed on to join Antonio Banderas in the Chilean miner film The 33. The film, which is based on the true story of the 33 Chilean miners who were rescued after being trapped for 69 days in 2010, will be Lopez's first big-screen role since starring in the action-thriller Parker, reports HollywoodReporter.com.
Mike Medavoy is producing the drama, and Martin Sheen and Rodrigo Santoro have also joined the film. Patricia Riggen, who directed La Misma Luna, is set to direct. Production is set to begin this fall in Chile.
While the deal doesn't detail who J.Lo will be playing, we do know Banderas will be playing Mario Sepulveda, the charismatic miner who was nicknamed "Super Mario." Sheen will play a miner's father, and Santoro is tackling the role of another trapped miner.
