Gloria Estefan graces the August 2012 cover of Latina, which hits newsstands, Flipboard and Nook newsstands on July 10.
The icon discusses her career that's spanned decards, her lasting marriage to collaborator Emilio Estefan, her responsibility as a role model, and her upcoming TV project as a mentor on the new series, The Next: Fame is at Your Doorstep.
On being a role model to Latinas: “Inspiring Latinas is the most beautiful side product of my career. It’s a beautiful thing to inspire somebody in some way and make them feel, 'I can do this.'”
On how to have a successful marriage: “We are partners in everything. Emilio has been there for me and I’ve been there for him and his growth. It’s been a great balance.”
On the trappings of fame and stardom: “Forget the money and the notoriety, because you don’t take that home and put it to bed with you. What difference does it make if you have all this fame and people are clamoring for you and you’re off that stage and you’re home alone?”
Her love advice to college-bound daughter, Emily: “It’s really important that you know the person. Emilio and I were together for two years before we got married. He was my love.”
On overcoming the grueling recovery from a devastating car crash: “Maybe this is the whole point, to show people that you can rise above, and you can be strong and that you can get past the things that life throws your way.”
