EXCLUSIVE: Mark Indelicato on Kurt from 'Glee': "I'd Like to See Gay Characters Portrayed as Stronger”

Mark Indelicato, who played arguably the most loveable gay teenager in television history, Justin Suarez on Ugly Betty, says Chris Colfer’s recent Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of Kurt on FOX”s hit show, Glee, is well-deserved, but adds that he wishes Colfer’s character was less of a victim. “I just don’t understand why the gay character is portrayed as the weak link—or the person who can’t stand up for themselves,” says Indelicato. “I think every gay character on TV—whether it be a boy or a girl, or even somebody questioning their sexuality—I would like to see them portrayed as stronger and more independent, not squeamish,” he adds.

The 16-year-old actor spoke to Latina.com about the difference between Justin and Kurt, and what he thinks Glee and Ugly Betty have in common. Watch him sound-off below:
