EXCLUSIVE: Jessica Alba On Her Second Pregnancy, “It’s Not As Daunting”

We recently caught up with Jessica Alba, who is expecting her second baby with hubby Cash Warren, and has been snapped out and about a lot showing off her precious little bump. Though the star of the upcoming Spy Kids 4 movie politely declined to confirm exactly when her next bundle of joy will arrive (we’re guessing late summer/early fall), she did dish on how this pregnancy is different than her first one with Honor Marie, who turns three in June and will make an amazing big sister—á la her favorite Latina cartoon character, Dora!
For starters, the mami-to-be says she is not working out as intensely. During her first pregnancy, trainer Ramona Braganza, who has worked with Alba since her Dark Angel days, was having her do 40-minute regimens that included walking on a treadmill at an incline, followed by stretching, additional cardio, and some light weights. This time around, though the intention is still to work out as regularly, Alba has been taking things easier all around. “I’d like to still do something five days a week, from a half hour to an hour—nothing excessive, just some moving [around]. It makes the whole pregnancy so much easier. The more fit you are, the easier the birth is, and a healthier baby you’re going to have.”
Another thing Alba says she’s trying to do differently this time around is relax, which isn’t as easy as it sounds—or at least it wasn’t when Honor Marie was in her belly. “Every moment was so new and kind of terrifying and now I know what to expect,” she says. “It’s like ‘it’s fine, I’ve been there before.’ With Honor, I was constantly like, ‘is she moving? Is her heart beating?’ I’d worry about everything and with this baby, I don’t have the same anxieties.”
Jessica partially attributes the calmness to hormones: “Maybe it’s because my body hormonally has already been through it, so I’m not being broken in,” she explains. “My body knows what to do. It’s not as daunting.”
As any mother knows, cravings are common during pregnancy, though in Jessica’s case, her cravings don’t vary too wildly from what she normally likes to eat, which are healthy foods. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t get crazy urges. “Sometimes you can’t get a food out of your mind,” she says. “I could always eat watermelon. With Honor, I loved fruit, too. It’s a decent craving. You still eat cheeseburgers and pickles—you just want watermelon really bad. I don’t deprive myself of anything. I eat whatever.”
Well, you’re looking fabulous and fit, Miss Jessica. And we can’t wait to meet Honor’s sibling!
