EXCLUSIVE: Ana Ortiz Discusses 'Devious Maids' Finale & Life As Working Mom

How involved are you in teaching your children about their Latino heritage? Do you speak to them in Spanish? Do they have a favorite Latino dish?

Yeah, it’s part of who I am, so I don’t feel like it’s something that I have to go out of my way to necessarily do. It is so part of our everyday life. Plus, we’re very family-oriented. My kids are always around my father, who’s Puerto Rican. He’s already telling them about the island and how we need to go! I got married in Puerto Rico, and it’s just a big part of my everyday life.

My kids love rice and beans. They take after me. That’s the one thing I can always get them to eat. I think it’s something very important that they know and that they recognize, but I think it’s also really fun.

My Spanish is not as good as it should be, so we always speak in Spanglish. But, my daughter is going to be entering into kindergarten, and we’re putting her in an immersion program. So, they teach everything in Spanish. My daughter is going to be more fluent than I am.

It’s a big regret of mine that my Spanish isn’t better.

So what comes next? Do you have anything else in the works?

I’m doing an episode of Revenge, the ABC show. I did a small independent with Michael Urie from Ugly Betty. Just trying to keep working and having fun with my kids this summer. We start shooting season two in January. I’ll be working and hanging out with my kids until then. I would love to do some auditioning or maybe do a play. I’d love to come back to New York and maybe do some theater. I'm open to different things. It's such a wonderful gift that I get to work on this fabulous show, and then I still get to have all this time off.

Any final words for our Latina.com readers?

They should all check out the Wisest Kid website! I would love some suggestion for Marisol’s love interest because we are sort of racking our brains!

Tweet us with the hashtag #MarisolBoyfriend to send in your suggestions for her love interest in Season 2! And be sure to tune in to Lifetime on Sunday at 10pm EST for the finale of Devious Maids!
