This talented Afro-Cubana has had starring roles on several sci-fi TV shows including, FlashForward, Alias, Serenity and Dark Angel—and we love that Gina always plays strong, confident women who aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo. Torres also appeared in two of the Matrix films (The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions), and played Chris Rock’s significant other in the comedy, I Think I Love My Wife. It was during filming The Matrix Reloaded that the Afro-Latina star met her now husband, Laurence Fishburne.

“This album represents where I am in my life right now and the arrangements represent all that I’ve learned throughout the years,” Marc said.

Vanessa Olivarez, Season 2

She may not have finished in the Top 10 in the second season of American Idol, but Vanessa Olivarez did make history as the first Latina finalist on Fox’s reality singing competition. Following her appearance on the show, Olivarez went on to become a successful artist in Canada. Along with releasing the single “The One,” which made it to the Top 10 on the Canadian charts, the now 32-year-old Latina singer also played the lead role in the Canadian version of the hit Broadway musical Hairspray.

Backstreet’s back, alright!  It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since Howie Dorough and his (Backstreet) Boys joined voices to take the music world by storm.

Two years after forming the band in Orlando, Florida, the 39-year-old Puerto Rican singer and his band mates released their debut single “We’ve Got It Goin’ On” in 1995. In the years that followed, the Backstreet Boys proved they really did have it goin’ on, selling more than 130 million albums worldwide.

It all came down to Team Shakira’s Mary Miranda/Cathia battle last night on The Voice. The two Latina singers went head-to-head using a…wait for it…Shakira song, Antes de las Seis.” During the rehearsals, Miranda stumbled a bit due to her lack of knowledge of Shakira’s catalogue.   

“Mary doesn’t know her parts,” Cathia said of Miranda. “You just can’t go up to Shakira and not sing her song well. You need to know the melody.” Ouch!
