Alfonso & Jonás Cuarón:
Prolific Mexican director, Alfonso Cuarón, had some help from his family on his latest feature Gravity. The thriller was co-written by his oldest son, Jonás Cuarón! “I’ve learend a lot of things from him,” Jonás said of his director father, “but one is that when you sit down to plan a movie, you sit down to plan a movie you would like to see.”
Robert & Racer Rodriguez:
Robert Rodriguez credits his then 7-year-old son, Racer, with the idea behind his 2005 film Shark Boy and Lava Girl. “We’re playing in the swimming pool, and we’re playing shark. He said, ‘You’re shark dad, I’m boy. Hey, let’s make a movie about shark boy, and I’ll be the shark boy.’ I said, ‘Yeah, yeah, whatever.’ So we’re drawing it out, and it became this movie, and I got really excited about that, about getting to work with my family on a movie for other families.”
Vicente & Alejandro Fernandez:
Alejandro Fernandez recorded a duet for his new album with a very special person, his father, Vicente! The duo recorded a song together -- “Que Pregunta Muchaco” -- in 1992. “I haven’t recorded in the studio with my father since my first album, more than 20 years ago.” Alejandro said, “It is a family experience that has enriched me personally and artistically. I truly enjoyed all aspects of it. The song is incredible, and I can’t wait for you to hear it.”
Madonna & Lourdes Leon
When Lourdes was just 13-years-old, she launched the Material Girl clothing line with her infamous mother, Madonna. Although Lourdes was too young at the time to do many interviews, her mother said, “I think we compliment each other, but we disagree on a few things.”
Andy Garcia & Dominik Garcia-Lorido:
Andy Garcia’s stunning daughter, Dominik Garcia-Lorido, is an up-and-coming actress following in her father’s famous footsteps. The 30-year-old actress got her start in the film The Lost City, co-starring her papá! “I’ve been watching her act since she was five, and my middle daughter also started in theatre,” he said of Dominik, “It’s pretty normal in our house, and you know, when she’s on set she’s a fellow actor. When I look across at her sometimes, I feel that pride, I’m so happy for her since she’s living her dream.”
Martin Sheen & Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez:
Martin Sheen has played the father of his sons, Charlie and Emilio, in various projects. The movie The Way, which was directed and written by Emilio Estevez, tells the dramatic tale of a tumultuous father and son relationship, with Sheen and Estevez playing the starring roles. In an interview with Latina, Estevez spoke about his relationship with his father. “I have a terrific relationship with my parents,” he said, “They’re married 50 years this year! I consider them my best friends.”
Oscar & Moises De La Renta:
Moises de la Renta launched a creative platform, online shop, and concept magazine called Moises Oscar, which builds relationships with forward thinking brands on long-term projects. One of Moises’s biggest clients has been his father -- designer Oscar de la Renta. Additionally, Moises is the designer behind the women’s ready-to-wear line MDLR. “I would look at fashion magazines,” Moises said, “And my father’s work would be in it...Having all that stimuli, I fell in love with photography and marketing and putting that whole world together.”
Carolina Herrera & Carolina Herrera de Báez:
Carolina Herrera runs a true family business. Her daughter, Carolina Herrera de Báez, joined the business in 1997 as the creative director for Herrera’s House of Fragrances. “I never thought of my mother as a big fashion designer,” Carolina Jr. said, “For me, she was just my mother. Now that I’m older and I’m a mother, I can look back and realize it.”
Edward James & Bodie Olmos:
Edward James Olmos was nominated for an Academy Award of Best Actor for his role in the profound film Stand and Deliver. However, there’s another reason why the movie was so special to the actor: his son, Bodie, also appeared in the film! The two have also famously teamed up as Admiral William Adama and Lt. Brendan ‘Hot Dog’ Constanza in Battlestar Galactica. “I saw my father from as far back as I can remember as an actor and watching him do that, it was very exciting,” Bodie said, “There was that natural interest in that whole scene.”
Evelyn Lozada & Shaniece Hairston:
Shaniece Hairston, the beautiful daughter of Evelyn Lozada, was recently revealed as the new face of BCBG Generation. The lovely Puerto Rican duo made her first appearance on television alongside her mother on the hit series Basketball Wives, but later collaborated with her mother on the cover of Rolling Out.
