In 2005, Cuban actor Bobby Cannavale won an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Star in a Comedy Series for his role as Vince D’Angelo, Will’s (Eric McCormack) endearing boyfriend on the hit NBC comedy, Will & Grace. Now, Cannavale, is looking to add a Tony award to his mantle!
This morning, the 41-year-old actor, who’s also part-Italian, earned a Tony nomination for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his work in The Motherf**ker with the Hat. In the play, Cannavale plays Jackie, a former drug dealer on parole who’s living clean and sober, but who's living with a woman who is still addicted to drugs.
The Motherf**ker with the Hat, which also stars comedian Chris Rock, earned six nominations this morning, including Best Play, and actor nominations for its three Latino stars: Cannavale, Elizabeth Rodriguez (who plays Veronica) and Yul Vazquez (Cousin Julio).
This is the second Tony nomination for Cannavale. He was previously nominated for his role as Dennis in the Broadway play, Mauritius. Congrats, Bobby!
The 2011 Tony's will air Sunday, June 12 on CBS.
