UPDATE: MLB came down hard on Alex Rodriguez and 12 other players on Monday. The League has suspended A-Rod through the end of the 2014 season.
"Rodriguez's discipline under the Basic Agreement is for attempting to cover-up his violations of the program by engaging in a course of conduct intended to obstruct and frustrate the Office of the Commissioner's investigation," MLB commissioner Bud Selig said in a statement.
Other Latino players suspended include Nelson Cruz of the Texas Rangers, Everth Cabrera of the San Diego Padres and Jhonny Peralta of the Detroit Tigers.
Rodriguez is expected to appeal the suspension, equivalent to 211 regular-season games, and will be allowed to play until his appeal is heard.
