Last week Ricky Martin proudly tweeted: "I'm happy to announce that my book titled "ME" will be released and available everywhere on November 2nd." The highly anticipated memoir, to be published simultaneously in Spanish and English by the Hispanic-focused Penguin imprint, Celebra (home to Emilio Estefan’s memoir, among other books by high-profile Latin celebrities), will chronicle Martin’s life journey. "After working for more than a year on my book, I can finally say it's finished!" Martin, who is a big fan and friend of the great Brazilian author Paulo Coelho, added enthusiastically on Twitter.
It's unclear exactly how open Martin will be about his life, or how far back he will go (will we get insight into the child, pre-Menudo?) As an adult in the spotlight, Martin dodged questions about his sexuality for years, but came out as a “fortunate homosexual man” through a lengthy statement on his website in March. If his words then are any indication, the book will indeed give us plenty of insight into those years in which he struggled to come to terms with his "truth:" "From the moment I wrote the first phrase I was sure the book was the tool that was going to help me free myself from things I was carrying within me for a long time. Things that were too heavy for me to keep inside. Writing this account of my life, I got very close to my truth. And this is something worth celebrating."
We’ve received word that the final manuscript was just approved late last week. Stay tuned for more details!
