We love books. And those penned by our own celebs? Even more so. From fashion tips to some delicious, mouth-watering recipes for the clueless (some of us), below are six things we've learned from Latina celeb authors.
1. Celebrity Authors: Gloria Estefan
Estefan Kitchen by Gloria Estefan and Emilio Estefan
We learned… how to make the best masitas de puerco (fried pork chunks) out there. The beautiful couple details step-by-step how to prepare what they describe as a typical Cuban dish. “One of the great things about masitas de puerco is that they serve many purposes. Often enough, we’ll serve them as a main course, along with some tostones or platanos maduros and rice and beans,” Emilio writes in the cookbook. A dish that is both delicious and versatile? Si, por favor!
2. Celebrity Authors: Eva Longoria
Eva's Kitchen: Cooking with Love for Family and Friends by Eva Longoria
We learned… how to make a mean tortilla soup. It’s perhaps the tastiest recipe in the former Desperate Housewives star’s cookbook, and also her most requested. Cute fact: Longoria’s recipe is based on one she found in a magazine when she was 12.
3. Celebrity Authors: Nina Garcia
We learned… the wonders of an A-line dress. The Colombian journalist breaks down the true A-line, which is narrower on the top and flares out gently towards the bottom. “It will work for you on your best day. It will work for you on your worst day,” she writes. “It will work when you don’t know what to wear, for all occasions, and in all kind of weather. And no matter what, it will flatter your figure.”
4. Celebrity Authors: Christy Turlington
Living Yoga: Creating a Life Practice by Christy Turlington
We learned… how to truly meditate. The supermodel gives us handy tips on how to engage in thought – to reflect. We will be using this to help us de-stress on our worst days.
5. Celebrity Authors: Daisy Fuentes
We learned how… to be more confident. The Cuban-American TV host/model shares tips on how to improve in everything from etiquette to relationships and sex. We especially love this chunk of advice: “Be yourself, but always be willing to be a better version of yourself.”
6. Celebrity Authors: Jessica Alba
The Honest Life: Living Naturally and True to You by Jessica Alba
We learned… what healthful eating really means. According to the Mexican-American actress, it’s “organic, local, seasonal, fresh and whole, mostly plant based”… and the list goes on. The book makes us really re-examine what we put into our mouths.
