The 69th Primetime Emmys are tonight, and as we're in some legendary era of TV, I figured I'd tune in to see all the genius, as well as outfits, let's be real.
To prep for tonight's festivities, I clicked on the list of Emmy nominees...and became instantly confused. Was I crazy, or did I see almost NO Latino nominees in almost ANY category?
I was pretty much right. Ughhhh..

What happened to Gina Rodriguez, leading Jane The Virgin? America Ferrera, in Superstore? J Lo, kicking ass in Shades of Blue? Or Sofia Vergara, still entertaining in Modern Family after all these years?
Two notable talents that DID garner Emmy nominations were Gilmore Girl Alexis Bledel for her guest role on The Handmaid's Tale and Lin-Manuel Miranda for hosting SNL, which he lost to Dave Chapelle —some Emmy wins have already been announced.
But besides that in terms of entertainers, there is pretty much nada, which is insane considering amazing shows with Latino casts like Netlfix's reboot of One Day at a Time starring Justina Machado, Rita Moreno, and Isabella Gomez. This family feel-good show was picked up for a second season and created by one of Hollwood's RARE Latina showrunners: Gloria Calderon Kellett. None of these fine females received an Emmy nod, which is just pure tontería.
Another stellar show lacking Emmy recognition was USA's Queen of the South which is brimming with Latina talent like Alice Braga, the chingona Veronica Falcon, and Latina showrunner Natalie Chaidez. WTF?
Other overlooked shows with Latino cast and crew include our bad-ass ladies of Litchfield: Diane Guerreo, Jackie Cruz, Dascha Polanco, Jessica Pimentel, and others from OITNB, Narcos, Riverdale, and American Crime.
On a more positive note, Remezcla did point out that the Latino-heavy Elena of Avalor was recognized by the Emmys this year. As were "a handful" of Latinx behind-the-sceners like writers, set designers, and costumers—including Risa Garcia, who was part of the costume design team behind the AMAZING outfits worn in Big Little Lies.
