Fifth Harmony hit the stage on Sunday at MTV’s VMAs to perform “Down” and “Angel” and while they had rain, splits, a mic drop and an appearance by Gucci Mane, everyone was focused one thing.

Two seconds after they sang the first note, a “fifth” member fell backward offstage into…never-never land. For those who’ve kept up with the social media feud between the chart-topping girl group and Camila Cabello, the member who went gone girl on them in 2016, it seemed like some serious shade.

But on Tuesday, Fifth Harmony's Ally Brooke told Lara Spencer on Good Morning America that the much-talked-about moment was an “artistic” message was for the media. Oh, okay. So it wasn't a savage move?

Brook, 24, explained, “We get asked all the time if we’re getting a fifth member. And we wanted to show the world in an artistic way that, ‘Hey the four of us are Fifth Harmony. We are stronger and better than we’ve been.’”
