West Side Story is Already a Broadway Hit
by Shani Saxon-Parrish | 03.03.2009 | 4:20pm | 2 Comments

West Side Story doesn’t officially open until March 19, but preview sales for the first seven shows reached as high as $1,042,713, according to Fox News. That would make it the second most popular play on the Great White Way, coming in right after hit musical Wicked.
The story’s original author, Arthur Laurents, 90, is directing the acclaimed revival, which is a great sign. We’re usually nervous about classic characters being misinterpreted and modernized beyond recognition. But it sounds like Tony and Maria are in great hands.
