Tell us a little bit about the new collection and who it's for.
This is my first collection called ále by Alessandra, which I have been working on for a year and a half. It’s super sexy, you know, for all the Latinas out there like me.
Did you create the line with yourself in mind?
Yes. I wanted it to look sexy without going too far because I have to feel comfortable. You know, I’m a mom too. So I want to look sensual and young but it has a limit. Everything has a limit where it can become a little vulgar.
What’s the most versatile piece in the collection?
With this little black dress, you can style it any way you want. You can put high heels on or you can do flats and just go with necklaces or a cuff. Whatever you feel like, you know, it’s not the basic black dress, but it’s a beautiful one.
What was your biggest concern when creating the collection?
When I was creating the collection, my biggest concern was the fabric. But I knew I was working with Planet Blue, and they only work with good fabric. I knew it was going to be a no-brainer to have great fabric in the collection.
What are some of your favorite pieces in the collection?
The jumpsuits are easy beautiful, pieces. To me, they’re inspired by all those actresses in the '70s like Bridgitte Bardot.
You’ve obviously traveled all over the world and you’re Brazilian but you live in the U.S.. So where do you think women have the best style? Is it in Brazil? Is it in the U.S.?
Everywhere. It’s really your personality. Obviously, I’ve always been inspired [by] the girls in Malibu. I think they have great style. I always see beautiful girls that are so sexy, and they’re showing off their skin. Brazil – oh my God, my friends, you know they’re not models or anything, but they have amazing, incredible style. But I just feel like there’s something interesting [everywhere]. It really just depends on your personality to me.
We can smell the waves! Speaking of smells, have you thought of a fragrance that finishes off the clothes for you?
I’ll come up with that one day. Don’t worry! [Laughs]
So you confirm you’re looking to do a perfume line?
Yes, because I’m working on a bunch of different categories for the brand. Obviously, I wanted to start with fashion – with clothes, which is my passion. But I’ll tell you the fragrance will come later. I have it in mind with a lot of ideas!
