Shampoo, Conditioner, styling agents—that’s the usual drill when it comes to maintaining my locks. That is until I came across Wen by Chaz Dean Cleansing Conditioner ($28). This is a conditioner that is meant to replace shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in. It has a creamy texture that looks like your typical conditioner, but it also has cleansing properties so you can scrub your scalp with it. The formula is free of harsh chemicals and sulfates like sodium lauryl sulfate. These sulfates help produce a lather, but are said to be drying to hair. Since it doesn’t foam up, it takes a little getting used to.
More is better in this case. For my shoulder length hair it’s recommended I use about 30 pumps of product. Sounds crazy, but it doesn’t feel like that much when you’re scrubbing your scalp. You need to have enough to detangle strands and coat ends too—don’t worry it's a big bottle. As an added bonus, you can use it as a leave-in on damp hair. I’ve been using it for several weeks and I like how it has made my hair more manageable. It also controls my curls and my hair doesn't feel brittle. And I’m in love with its minty lavender smell! My hair and scalp feel clean (even though I had my doubts at first), but detangling in the shower is a little tough. What do you think, would you use a cleansing conditioner?
