TV and film actress Zoe Saldana was born in Passaic, N.J., to her Dominican father, Aridio Zaldana, and her Puerto Rican mother, Asalia Nazario. She spent most of her childhood growing up in Queens, N.Y., and joined the Faces Theater Troupe, where she pursued dance and ballet. Saldana’s debut role was in the dance film Center Stage (2000), which led to appearances in Crossroads (2002) and the comedy Drumline (2002). Her body of work includes Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Star Trek (2009), the highest-grossing film of all time, Avatar (2009), The Losers (2010), Takers (2010), and Colombiana (2011).

Fox reports that Avatar ticket sales have surpassed Titanic's record setting $1.24 billion. Avatar hit $1.29 billion at the international box office this weekend and the studio estimates that the sci-fi blockbuster will top Titanic's worldwide gross of $1.848 billion to become globe's biggest selling movie of all time by Monday.
