Shakira, born Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, is a Colombian singer, musician, dancer and philanthropist. She emerged in the Latin music scene in the early 1990s and reached stardom for her distinct style of rock when she released Pies Descalzos in Latin America in 1995. After her crossover pop single “Whenever, Wherever” was released in 2001, Shakira found success in the United States and worldwide with her first English album, Laundry Service. She has won two Grammys, seven Latin Grammys and is the highest-selling Colombian artist of all time.
