Every year, the Emmy Awards have a ton of repeat nominees (we’re talking of course about the usual suspects: Steve Carell, Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, etc). but every year there are also a few fresh faces and a few surprises. With that said, here are seven talented Latina stars whose names should be called out when nominations for the 63^rd annual primetime Emmy Awards are announced on July 14!

It looks as though Eva Longoria is picking up a new language! The 36-year-old star of Desperate Housewives recently announced at the 9th Annual GLAD Benefit Extravaganza that she is learning sign language to be able to communicate with her deaf fans. 

“I’ve had a lot of deaf people who have bought my [cook] book and I’ve been able to talk to them about what my favorite recipe is and what to cook,” she said....

Looks like Eva Longoria isn't the only Desperate Housewife in San Antonio Texas these days. Longoria received a dramatic visit from her ex-mother in law Pamela Firestone at a recent signing of her new book Eva's Kitchen: Cooking with Love for Family & Friends.

Most celebrities are known for their beauty, sense of fashion, taste in men or sometimes even (gasp!) their raw talent. But rarely are they ever admired for their brains.

So, in the spirit of all the recent inspirational commencement speeches we’ve heard, we decided to tip a hat to the Latina celebs who have stuck to their guns and pursued degrees in higher education. Here’s to setting an example with your actions chicas!
