A Whitney Houston biopic is finally in the works!

The gorgeous Yaya DaCosta Alafia, who starred in last year's box office hit The Butler, has been tapped to play the role of Houston in the upcoming Lifetime film.

According to TV Line, the TV movie will focus on the late Houston's tumultuous relationship with singer-songwriter Bobby Brown during her rise to musical stardom.

The untitled biopic will be directed by actress Angela Bassett, who starred alongside Houston in 1995's Waiting to Exhale.

"I have such regard for both Whitney's and Bobby's amazing talents and accomplishments; and I feel a responsibility in the telling of their story," Bassett said in a statement.

"Their humanity and bond fascinates us all. I'm beyond excited to have this opportunity to go behind the camera and into their world."

The Lifetime biopic is set to be released in 2015.

What do you think about the decision to cast Yaya DaCosta as Whitney Houston?
