Proof that underdogs have a fighting chance was evident in the X Factor semi-finals, that somewhat coincidentally mirrored last season. Kelly Rowland's Jeff Gutt, Paulina Rubio's Carlito Olivero and Simon Cowell's groups Alex and Sierra and Restless Road were the last four remaining in the competition.
Olivero was considered the underdog, just like last season's Fifth Harmony. Fifth Harmony was the first act called into the finale, and this season, Olivero played that part. With Olivero moving on to the finale, the feeling that Restless Road would be eliminated was similar to last year's other hit group, Emblem3.
The country band was ultimately sent home, giving Olivero a well-deserved fighting chance after his previous performance the night before.
We caught up with the judges after the show, where Simon gushed over Olivero's performance, even "thanking" Marc Anthony for clearing his song that Olivero ultimately performed. The ladies talked about performing in the finale and Rubio commented on Olivero charting on Latin iTunes among other topics.
We also talked to the remaining and eliminated contestants and host Mario Lopez on everything from "sudden" competition to comparisons and celebrity advice.
