When you're not working, what do you love to do?
I like to hang out with my friends. We usually go to concerts. I love going to comedy clubs. I like doing a lot pf spontaneous things. I like having fun.
You’re Cuban and Puerto Rican. How do you stay connected your Latino culture?
I’m second-generation on my dad’s side. My dad was born [in Cuba]. My mom is like fourth-generation [Puerto Rican]. I get most of my Latino background from my dad. Most of my Latino culture is from my dad’s family. My grandmother had a really big influence on that because she would always speak to me in Spanish and that’s how I learned how to speak Spanish. She always cooked me the Spanish foods and I even spent some summers in Cuba with her. It’s kind of really like I dove into the culture. And with my mom’s side, the Puerto Rican family, my grandmother had a big influence. I’ve gone to Puerto Rico a bunch of times to visit family. It’s kind of different, kind of the same in a way.
You’ve got a big family, what is it like growing up as the middle child?
Well, here’s he situation, I don’t even think I’m the middle child anymore. So my mom and my dad had me and my brother Nico, who is 19. Then they got divorced and then my dad got remarried and he had 2 kids, my little brother Alex and my little sister Brianna. And then my mom remarried and the guy she married had 3 kids from a previous marriage, and then they had a kid together. We all get along, so we’re like one big family, it’s kind of crazy. But I like having a lot of siblings. It’s fun because you always have someone to hang out with. There is never a dull moment.
What is your favorite Latin dish?
Ropa vieja is my favorite and rice and beans.
What are your plans for the future, any upcoming projects?
Right now I am auditioning but my main focus right now is Every Witch Way.
Is there anything we didn’t cover you’d like to tell our Latina readers?
I want to go to USC for college! I want to major in filmmaking. I’ve been doing acting all my life, so I thought it’d be a good idea to go for that.
You’re interested in filmmaking – do you have aspirations to wind up on the other side of the camera?
Yeah, I want to do both.
You can see Tyler on Every Witch Way every Monday through Friday in January at 7:30/6:30 C.
