Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps at the Mesa Grand Prix

Go, Ryan Lochte!

Our favorite Cuban American Olympic swimmer beat out longtime rival Michael Phelps in a a 100m butterfly at the Arena Grand Prix in Mesa, Ariz. on Thursday night, reports NBC Sports. This was Phelps first competitive final since the London Olympics and Lochte is making his way back after aggravating a major knee injury earlier this year.

“Down there at the turn I kind of peeked over and I saw him and almost started smiling,” Lochte said after his win. “Why? Because you were ahead?” Phelps interjected.

Lochte went on to describe the exact magnitude of the competition. "Seeing all these cameras right before I’m about to race,” Lochte said. “I’m like, thanks, Michael.”

The 29-year-old Olympic medalist later snapped a shirtless pic with fans (below) to celebrate his victory. "Having fun taking #selfies with the fans after winning 100 fly tonight. Love u guys! #jeah," Lochte captioned the photo on Instagram.

Congratulations, Ryan!
