10 Badass Latina Cops On TV

Who's excited to see Jennifer Lopez on NBC's new drama Shades of Blue? The superstar will star as Harlee McCord, a single mom and detective who's recruited to work undercover on an important case.

We love Jenny From The Block, and we're thrilled to announce that she's joining the ranks of these 9 other Latina TV cops:

1. Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez is set to star in Shades of Blue, an NBC cop-drama about Harlee McCord, a detective who’s compromised by her colleagues and finds herself faced with a moral dilemma: does she work against her cop brothers to redeem herself?

The show is set to debut in fall 2015, and it’s Lopez’s first starring TV role since 1994 when she appeared on Second Chances. Will you be watching?

2. Roselyn Sanchez

Roselyn Sanchez

On Without a Trace, Roselyn Sanchez portrayed Elena Delgado, an assertive, streetwise special agent for the FBI. The single mom appeared on the drama for the first time in season four, and shook up the team with her cold demeanor. Eventually, Delgado warms up to the team -- and to fellow officer, Danny Taylor.

3. Lauren Velez

Lauren Velez

As María LaGuerta on the serial killer drama Dexter, Lauren Velez portrays a tough, determined police captain fighting for power in a law enforcement agency rife with politics.

Not to mention, this isn’t Velez’s first time playing a cop! From 1994 to 1998, she portrayed Detective Nina Moreno on New York Undercover.

4. Michelle Rodriguez

Michelle Rodriguez

LOST fans will probably recognize Michelle Rodriguez as assertive LA cop Ana Lucia Cortez. Cortez took over as the fearless leader of the tail section following the crash of Oceanic Airlines Flight 815. As her story progresses, audiences were given a fascinating and dynamic backstory about the LAPD officer.

5. Eva La Rue

Eva LaRue

Eva La Rue brought  Natalia Boa Vista to life on CSI: Miami. The dynamic character has a mysterious past...and her co-workers question her integrity when she's first brought to the lab. Eventually, she earns the trust of everyone in the department...and even develops a relationship with her co-worker, Eric Delko, played by Adam Rodriguez.

6. April Lee Hernandez

April Lee Hernandez

April Lee Hernandez plays Cira Manzon, an officer with Miami Vice who works her way up to detective...often by stabbing people in the back to get ahead in her career. Hernandez spoke to us about her feud with Deb (played by Jennifer Carpenter) on the show, defending Manzon’s determination to climb the ladder at the police department. “I don’t think Cira and Deb were buddies,” she said. “They were two women going for the same thing, and sometimes in life, unfortunately people do what they do.”

7. Paula Garces

Paula Garces

Paula Garces stole the show on The Shield as Tina Hanlon, a young, unexperienced Los Angeles Police Department officer. At first, Hanlon makes countless mistakes in the field, but later proves -- against all odds -- that she can hold her own.

8. Natalie Martinez

Natalie Martinez

Following the death of her boss and mentor, Sheriff Linda Esquivel takes over as head of the police force for Chester Mill -- a small town that’s suddenly become trapped inside a mysterious, invisible “dome”. Despite being separated from her husband and being thrown into challenging new leadership position, Sheriff Esquivel manages to unite the townspeople and bring some semblance of order and normality to Chester Mill.

9. Sarah Shahi

Sarah Shahi

Detective Dani Reese, played by Sarah Shahi, is the partner to Detective Charlie Crews -- a man who’s just been released from prison after serving twelve years of a life sentence. After DNA evidence exonerates him from the crime, he emerges from jail enlightened by the philosophy of Zen. Detective Reese, a recovering alcoholic and drug addict, develops a bond with Crews, and the two resolve to track down the real murderer.

10. Cote de Pablo

Cote de Pablo

Chilean-born Cote de Pablo played Israeli officer Ziva David for nine seasons on NCIS. The popular character has been lauded as one of the strongest women on TV and praised an an example of how to properly write a female action hero. We agree 100% -- Cote and Ziva are amazing, strong women!
