When Gisele Bundchen arrived in New York City at the age of 16, she was ready to pursue her career as a model, but there was just one little thing holding her back.

During an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, the supermodel revealed she was able to speak two languages (Portuguese and a little bit of Spanish) at the time, but she struggled to communicate with anyone she met because she didn't speak English.

Soon, Bundchen picked up on the language, but not from Rosetta Stone or anything like that.

"My wonderful cassette tapes, Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey, saved my life!" Bundchen told Fallon.

"They were great teachers, so I have to thank them one day if I ever meet them in person. They were very inspiring."
