We've officially given up on true love.
Melanie Griffith has filed for divorce from her husband of 18 years, Antonio Banderas. TMZ reports that the 56-year-old actress cited irreconcilable differences in the divorce petition. She also requested child support and sole physical and joint legal custody of their daughter, Stella, who turns 18 in September. Griffith also wants spousal support from 53-year-old Banderas.
The couple met for the first time at the Academy Awards in 1988, when Griffith was nominated for Best Actress for her flick Working Girl. "As soon as I got out of the car, I saw her," Banderas said of the event. "I didn't recognize her, because at the time I hadn't seen the movie... I asked, 'Who is that beautiful woman?'" The pair didn't begin dating until 1995, after shooting the flick Two Much together. They married in May of 1996.
Griffith has been married -- and divorced -- four times, and Banderas was married once before.
We're devastated to hear this news, but wish Melanie and Antonio the best of luck!
