Alfonso Cuaron might be returning to the world of Harry Potter

According to Fox News Latino, the Oscar-winning director of Gravity is reportedly in talks to direct J.K. Rowling's new fantasy epic, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.

The speculation comes just days after former Editor-in-Chief of Deadline, Nikki Finke, tweeted that the Mexican filmmaker was "deep in talks" to direct the new film.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is based upon the 2001 novel of the same name, and will not be a prequel or sequel to the events of Harry Potter. Instead, the movie will be based in New York City -- 70 years before the events of the previous films -- and follow the adventures of a man named Newt Scamander. The movie is the first installment in a trilogy of films set to be written by Rowling.

This isn't Cuaron's first experience with the world of witchcraft and wizardry. The acclaimed filmmaker directed Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, earning positive reviews for his ability to capture the true essence and spirit of the novel.

Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them is set to hit theaters in November of 2016.
