Leonardo DiCaprio has been tapped to star in Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's new film, The Revenant.

According to the Los Angeles Times, DiCaprio will play Hugh Glass in the "gritty" 1820s revenge thriller.

The Revenant is based on the book, The Revenant: A Novel Of Revenge, by Michael Punke. It tells the story of Hugh Glass, a fur trapper who is robbed and left for dead after being mauled by a grizzly bear. After surviving, Glass is enraged with anger and sets out on a mission of vengeance against the men who betrayed him.

Deadline reports that filming will commence in September and the film is set to be released in fall 2015.
