Where is Michael Trevino on "Vampire Diaries"?

Over the last three weeks or so, the CW’s hit series The Vampire Diaries—a show that I happen to be semi-obsessed with—has been showing way too little of my boy Michael Trevino, and I don’t like it one bit!
Trevino, 24, who plays jock/badboy Tyler Stratton on the show, hasn’t appeared in more than one scene in about 3 weeks! That’s a long time for a series regular to be off-screen, especially since all of the other “regulars” have been getting screen time.
Despite my age (I’m 26), and despite the fact that the show is aimed at teens, I love The Vampire Diaries (shhh, don’t tell anyone that, lest I seem immature). But one of the big reasons I tune in each week (when I could be in New York City grabbing a drink with those in my age group) is my ongoing support for Michael’s career—I think he’s a very gifted actor and that he adds depth and drama to the show. No wonder I get so disappointed when I tune in and he’s missing in action for weeks at a time.
This Michaelessness had me feeling blue, but I felt better when I remembered that during my interview with Trevino earlier this fall, the gracious Mexican actor—who loves working on VD—told me that things get off to a slow start for his character at first. “It takes a while for Tyler to come into play and have a bigger impact as far as season 1 goes, but there are big plans for Tyler down the road!” Phew (wiping sweat off my forehead)! It makes sense: the show is busy telling the story of the main three characters, Stefan (Paul Wesley), Damon (Ian Somerhandler) and Elena (Nina Dobrev), who are involved in a steamy love triangle.
I couldn’t help but ask Michael if those “big plans” include his character turning into a vampire, and he explained why that would probably never happen: “In the series of books, Tyler turns into a werewolf! Long story short, my character's name is Tyler Lockwood, and the vampires' last name is Salvatore. The Salvatores and the Lockwoods have been around for generations and generations—that's why Tyler's family is one of the richest families. The show goes deeper into how werewolves came about,” he explained. In that case, I would love to see a Damon/Tyler, or Tyler/Stefan, werewolf vs. vampire(s) showdown (that would even put Twilight’s Edward vs. Jacob rivalry to shame!).
So listen up Vampire Diaries, we at Vivo Por Tivo understand that you are busy telling the show’s major triangle storyline and we are loving that storyline, but we’d also love it if we could see more of our boy Mike every week. He’s a great part of an already great show. (By the way, I’m hearing that Michael is going to appear in this Thursday’s episode). Hooray for that!
