Last season, Mexican actor Demián Bichir (who played Fidel Castro in Che) was introduced on Showtime’s hit series Weeds as the ruthless Tijuana Mayor, Esteban Reyes, who falls in love with suburban mom/drug dealer Nancy Botwin (Mary Louise-Parker). After much drama last season (and some very Blue Velvet style spanking), Nancy seemed to have won Esteban back in the finale when she showed him a sonogram of a baby boy she revealed was his son.

Bichir, whose back for the fifth season of Weeds, spoke exclusively to Vivo Por TiVo about Nancy’s bun in the oven, his role on season 5 (premiering June 8 at 10 p.m.) and why he’s willing to spank Mary Louise Parker (on the show} as long as she asks for it!

You’re back this season! How many episodes are you going to appear in during season 5?
Up until now, I’ve been in 8. We’re shooting the 8th now.

What’s coming up for your character, Esteban?
All I can say is that Esteban is going to try to find out what the deal is with this pregnancy thing. Basically, that’s the first thing we have to find out: if indeed it’s real and there’s a boy, and if it is mine.

Can we expect Esteban to change in a big way?
I don’t think human beings can change drastically under any given circumstances. But maybe, if this pregnancy is real and if indeed there is a baby inside‚and indeed it’s a boy—things might change for Esteban for good, we hope.

Is there any chance that Esteban will spank Nancy like he did last season?
It’s hard to tell (laughs). If she asks for them, yeah, she will deserve those!

Is the Nancy/Esteban romance going to last forever, or is their romance doomed?
I don’t really know. One thing I love about this show is that it’s pretty much how life is. In life, you never really know if you’re going to end up with the same person for the rest of your life. It’s the same situation with them because they found each other and they seem to be bound together in love. That’s how it seems up until now. Lets see whatever is good for both. I believe that the same type of souls get together sooner or later.

You can’t visit Vivo Por TiVo without telling us your favorite shows. What are they?
I watch Seinfeld reruns every now and then, Grey’s Anatomy, and Family Guy and The Simpsons.
