All good things must come to an end. I’ve had a blast writing Vivo Por Tivo this past year, and I am sad to report that this will be my final Blog post (I am crying TV-shaped tears as I type these words). Because this is a sad occasion, I thought we’d end the year on a happy note—with a list of the Top 5 Most Entertaining Vivo Por Tivo Stories of 2009! These are the stories that were so fun, so scandalous, and so funny that they managed to get the attention of media outlets all across America—everyone from PerezHilton.com to The Huffington Post and entertainment websites like Ohnotheydidn’t. Please read my final blog post, and thank you for being such loyal and wonderful readers. Happy Holidays!
). Sara Paxton vs. The CW: In my Exclusive Q&A with Paxton, the beautiful Mexican actress blasted the CW for abruptly canceling her new show, The Beautiful Life, after just two episodes. The story got picked up by dozens of media outlets including, PerezHilton.com, USA Today and The Huffington Post. It also divided people. Some felt that Sara was whining about nothing major, while others thought she was 100% right to blame the network for her show’s demise. Me? I’m with the latter group. I admire Sara for standing up for her show, something she clearly believed in.
). Mario Lopez vs. Ryan Seacrest: Way back in March of 2009, Black Eyed Peas singer Taboo said that Mario Lopez was the “Mexican Ryan Seacrest.” A few weeks later, I interviewed Mario and asked him what he thought about the comparison. His answer made people all across America giggle: “Ryan is a friend of mine and I like all of the stuff he’s doing,” he said. “But I host, I produce, I act, I dance, I’ve done Broadway and I’m an author! There’s a lot more going on in different areas of my repertoire.” Priceless!
). Frankie Delgado’s un-gay Bromance: In one of my favorite interviews of the year, the down-to-earth reality star Frankie Delgado (The Hills) spoke to Vivo Por Tivo about his buddy Brody Jenner’s MTV reality show, Bromance. In the interview, Delgado said that Bromance was “not gay." “It's a brotherhood," said Delgado. “A male friendship. They call it a bromance because it's someone you're really close with, your best friend. It's like when girls go, 'She's my BFF.'" Because Frankie is a really nice guy, he convinced me that the show wasn’t gay, but PerezHilton wasn’t convinced and wrote a story making fun of Delgado.
). Kirk Acevedo vs. FOX: When Kirk Acevedo got fired from Fringe this past summer, the actor took to Facebook with this message for his friends: "WELL BOYS AND GIRLS THEY DONE DID YER BOY WRONG! THEY FIRED ME OFF FRINGE, AND IVE NEVER BEEN FIRED IN MY LIFE!!!!" It was the status update heard around the world! Never has a FB update gotten so much national attention. He spoke to me about the situation and the story was full of drama.
). True Blood’s Latin Makeover: As a die-hard fan of HBO’s True Blood, I imagined what the show would like if it were to get a Latin makeover. Our fun post was picked up by popular fan sites like TrueBloodonline.com, and people seemed to really like it. I still say Joanna Garcia would make a wonderful Sookie Stackhouse!
