Latinas are booking TV roles left and right this week! First up is Demi Lovato, who stars in the Disney Channel original series, Sonny With A Chance. She'll be featured on the racy ABC medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy, as a guest star. Lovato, 17—whose episode will air during May sweeps—shot her Grey's episode last week. Joe Jonas, Lovato's boyfriend, told reporters at the Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards last week, what this opportunity means for his girlfriend: “She totally deserves this and this is a dream role for her. It's great people are going to see her do different things."
Apparently, Lovato is one of Grey's biggest fans, which is probably why she tweeted this last week: “I’m so thrilled to announce that this week I’m shooting Grey’s Anatomy!!!!!!!! AHHH!!!!”. That’s a whole lot of exclamation points, girl! Unlike the cookie-cutter pop princesses she plays for Disney, Lovato's Grey's character is a Seattle Grace patient being treated for possible schizophrenia.
In other casting news, Argentinean actress, Julie Gonzalo—who you probably remember from ABC’s Eli Stone or the CW’s Veronica Mars—has been tapped to guest star on ABC’s quirky dramedy, Castle. She will play an old high school friend of Becket’s (Stana Katic), and a former reality TV contestant who finds herself in the middle of an investigation into the murder of a fellow contestant, Michael Ausiello reported for http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/04/01/castle-julie-gonzalo-top-chef/)" target="_blank">EW.com. I wonder if she’s guilty? The episode—which I can’t wait to see!—is called, Food to Die For and will also feature a cameo appearance by reality TV chef, Rocco Dispirito.
LatiNation host Desi Sanchez has been tapped to serve as the “new face” of MTV2! Sanchez will be joined by other on-air personalities like DJ Funkmaster Flex, and radio personality DJ Envy on the channel—which features a wide range of shows targeting a male audience. "I'm super psyched and grateful for the opportunity to be a part of MTV2," Sanchez said in a statement. "I've always been a tomboy at heart, and love all things tech, gaming, sports and music. It’s going to be an awesome ride!"
Finally, Gina Torres (Firefly) has joined the ABC Family series Huge, “a series set at a weight-loss camp for teens,” says The Hollywood Reporter. The talented Cuban actress will play a doctor named Dorothy Rand. This is Torres’ first series regular role in years—she’s been busy as of late with guest roles on hit shows like Gossip Girl and Flash Forward.
