Selena Gomez Scores with Miley Cyrus

What happens when Miley Cyrus appears in the same 90 minute special as “the next Miley Cyrus,” Selena Gomez? I know what you're thinking: The claws come out! But actually, they didn't. Instead, the Selena + Miley pairing was pretty purrrfect and gave the Disney channel its highest ratings of the year!
An impressive 9.3 million viewers tuned in Friday night, as the Mickey Mouse channel (or, as my mother calls it, “the Meeky Mow chanoe”) aired a 90-minute crossover event featuring episodes of Hannah Montana, Wizards of Waverly Place and The Suite Life on Deck, in which nine stars from those three different shows meet each other in a star-studded crossover event. The aptly named special, Wizards on Deck with Hannah, became cable’s most-watched scripted program for the entire year so far, according to the Hollywood Reporter. It also became the top scripted telecast this year among kids 6-11 and tweens 9-14, and beat CBS in the ratings for the night by upwards of 4 million viewers! (I bet the “eye” network didn’t see that one coming!)
And as TVGuide.com’s Matt Mittovich rightly points out, the crossover event also outperformed past Disney crossover events by very large numbers. “Compared to Disney's past multishow mergers, Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana improved upon 2007's Cory in the House-Suite Life of Zack & Cody-Hannah mashup by 82 percent, and bested 2006's That's So Raven-Suite Life-Hannah crossover by 41 percent.” Holy mouseketeers!
But what impressed me the most about this Selena-fied/Miley-fied special is that the event managed to score bigger numbers than last month’s supersuccessful Princess Protection Program, which also starred Gomez alongside real-life BFF Demi Lovato. I’m no math whiz or anything, but that means that Selena + Demi = 8.5 million viewers, which equals big success, while Selena + Miley = 9.3 million viewers, which equals even bigger success. So I'm willing to bet that when Demi subtracts one from the other and realizes that makes 800,000 more people, she's going to be a wee bit jealous. That said, while Gomez and Lovato spent all of their time on-screen together in Princess Protection Program, Gomez and Cyrus don’t share a single scene in Wizards on Deck with Hannah Montana. Could it be that there’s some truth to all that chisme that these girls really don’t get along? I think so. Regardless, though, Selena has scored big with Miley Cryus, and vice versa.
What say you, TVians? Are Selena and Miley a good team?
