Q & A: Lauren Velez on "Dexter" Finale: "Batista Doesn't Die"

My favorite character actress on television, Lauren Velez, called me up to talk about the highly anticipated season four finale of Showtime's hit series Dexter, which airs this Sunday at 9 p.m.
Lets get right to the juicy stuff: Sunday’s finale! Should fans tune in?
[Laughs] You don’t want to miss it! It’s been a phenomenal season. I can’t wait to see it, and I shot it! I can’t wait to see how it all comes together because it’s a very different experience doing the work and watching it as a viewer.
The episode is called “The Getaway.” I hope that doesn’t mean that the Trinity killer gets away?
I can’t say anything [Laughs].
For Dexter fans who have followed the whole Trinity story from episode 1, will we get closure in the finale or is there a cliffhanger?
I can’t answer that one, Lee [Laughs].
Would you call what happens in the finale a game changer?
I know that it’s a big, super twist! A super-duper twister.
When you found out how the season ends, what was your first reaction to it?
I still haven’t really recovered from the shock of it.
Does Laguerta cry in the finale?
No! No more tears for Laguerta this season. Why’d you ask that?
There’s a rumor online that her new husband, Batista, might die!
[Laughs.] Well I can tell you that that rumor is not true!
I take it you’ll also be back next season!!?
Unless you know something I don’t, Lee?
Yay! How about this: Is one of the good guys in danger of dying?
Someone is in danger of dying, yes. That’s all I can tell you.
Is Dexter Morgan going to be a darker character next season?
Do you think he could get darker? Is that possible? He’ll just be different. One of the things that I’ve noticed about his evolution is, after every season, you think: where can they possibly go? And it just keeps getting deeper and deeper and there are different levels and conflicts that come up. There’s just a wealth of emotion and situations to be navigated through. So I can’t wait to see what happens next season. I have no idea where they’re going to go with it.
Are you working on anything while you’re on hiatus from Dexter?
Last year I did Ugly Betty and my one woman show La Lupe, so this year I’m just going to enjoy my hiatus and if something comes up, great! But for now, I just want to enjoy my time off.
