"Lost" Plans Latin Foursome!

Earlier this week, I told you that ABC’s Lost would be introducing a new character named Selena when the show returns for its sixth and final season in early 2010. Now, TVGuideMagazine.com has learned that the show is casting four more Latino characters for the new season’s 9th episode (that’ll certainly help with the current shortage of Latino actors on TV). The new Latin cast members include a loving wife and devout Catholic in her 30’s named Isabella (who is also very sickly with a long-term, chronic illness), a religious hombre named Ignacio who has turned to crime, a stern Catholic priest named Father Suarez, and a wealthy Latino doctor. Our dream casting choices for each of these exciting new roles are as follows!
1). Isabella: Valerie Cruz, 33, is superb at playing a woman who is deeply in love with her husband (see: Dexter season 3, opposite Jimmy Smits), and will do anything for him, which makes her perfect for Isabella, a 30-something-year-old Latina who would do anything for the man she loves. The Cuban actress is also skilled at playing a character with strong beliefs and strong morals (as we saw with her role as Isabel, a 600-year-old vampire with a heart of gold on HBO’s True Blood). No one would make a more believable devout Catholic! And did we mention that she’s absolutely stunning?
2). Ignacio: Michael Peña (Crash, World Trade Center), 33, has a knack for playing down-on-their-luck characters who act in unethical ways because of extraordinary circumstances. That’s why the Mexican actor would be perfect for the role of Ignacio, a religious man who turns to crime when playing by the rules doesn’t work in his favor. Bonus Points: Peña is also a great character actor who is adept at conveying the deep sadness and the internal conflict of his characters, but he’s also skilled at playing a guy with street smarts who isn’t afraid to get up in somebody’s face!
3). Father Suarez: Hector Elizondo, 72. Most of my life, whenever I thought of Elizondo, the image of him in Pretty Woman (as the warm and kind hotel manager Barney Thompson) popped into my head. But then last month I saw him on an October episode of Grey’s Anatomy, in which he played Callie’s (Sara Ramirez) devout Catholic dad, and he was so convincing as a guy who wanted his daughter to quit lesbianism, that I think he would be the ideal choice to play Father Suarez, a stern Catholic priest who never thinks he’s wrong…ever.
4). The Good Doctor: Benjamin Bratt, 45. He’s guest-starring on Modern Family later this season and also returning to Law & Order for one episode, but we can never get enough of Peruvian actor Bratt. We’d love to see him playing a wealthy doctor who cures all of the sick people on the island. And we’re betting that when the islanders get a look at the handsome doctor, his consulta is going to be packed!
What do you think of our crew? How would you cast the new Latino foursome? Dish in the comments!
