I’m proud to share the news that one of our boys—Mexican actor Kevin Alejandro—is set to appear in 5 episodes of the hit Showtime series Weeds (starring Mary-Louise Parker as a surburban mother turned marijuana dealer.) when the comedy returns with new episodes on June 8. Alejandro, 33, is perhaps best known for his 8 episode stint as Santos (Hilda’s ex and Justin’s dad on Ugly Betty). He dished details on his upcoming role to fellow TV-holic, Kristin Dos Santos, and here's what the actor had to say: "I am recurring on Weeds this season. I did the season finale last year, and I just started up the new season this year. I do a lot of my stuff with Elizabeth Perkins,” he revealed, not giving too much away about a kidnapping storyline that involves his character.

But that's not all Alejandro has been up to. He's also invading your TV this spring as Detective Nate Moretta on the single hottest new cop drama of the season, NBC’s riveting, non-stop thrilling, cold-dead-bodies chilling, Southland. The smart, stylish drama takes viewers inside the lives of cops, criminals, victims and their families, and Alejandro plays one of the cops who has a difficult time balancing work and play. “This show is done by people who really know L.A, and who want to show it in its natural light, and they're doing a great job using L.A. as a backdrop,” he said in a recent interview. The actor continued, “It's really cool how you can be somewhere in Watts or Nickerson Gardens, very gritty places, and all you have to do is look over your shoulder and see the most beautiful downtown skyline.” Certainly, Southland embodies that rich dichotomy of grit and elegance juxtaposed. It's gritty, like Whitney Houston's crack-pipe, but it's also also beautiful, (think David Lynch’s Mullholland Drive meets The Wire.

Kev’s getting hot right now in Hollywood, but he’s not new to the industry. In fact, he’s been around for years, and was a featured player on the Showtime original series Sleeper Cell, and also appeared as Dominic Hughes in The Young and the Restless.
Check out a slightly dated clip of Kevin as ghetto-fabulous Santos on Ugly Betty. Then tell me, does he remind you of Johnny Depp during his 21 Jump Street Days, or have I officially watched too much TV and fried my brain?
