Friday TV Report: "90210" Star Michael Steger Gets Relationship Advice From Samantha Ronson?
| 09/25/2009 - 15:00 | 0 Comments
I give you the five coolest news items of the week: 90210’s Ecuadorian hunk Michael Steger gets relationship advice from Linday Lohan’s ex-girlfriend; Cote de Pablo, Lin Manuel Miranda, and Sofia Vergara are ratings gold, and Freddie Prinze Jr. has a baby with a vampire slayer! Plus, the CW requests more of Michael Trevino’s Vampires, and things are looking ugly for Sara Paxton and her Beautiful Life.
1. 9021-oh? In a (peculiar) upcoming episode of the CW teen drama 90210, Adrianna’s (Jessica Lowndes) boyfriend Navid (Michael Steger) will get some much-needed advice on “matters of the heart” from a female club-goer. There’s nothing shocking about that—except that the show has cast none other than Linday Lohan’s DJ ex-girlfriend Samantha Ronson in the role. Word is the DJ will be very much in her comfort zone during her guest-starring appearance as someone who meets Navid at a club performance by Pharrell. Ronson’s episode is scheduled to air on Nov. 3, but unless Adrianna has a fire-crotch situation going on, I don’t really see how she can be of any assistance to our boy Navid. Maybe they should’ve cast Jennifer Anniston?
2. Latinos are ratings gold! Three Latinos—Cote de Pablo, Lin Manuel Miranda and Sofia Vergara conquered television this week! 12. 7 million viewers tuned in to watch Vergara’s critically acclaimed ABC comedy Modern Family—a staggering and impressive number for a debuting comedy, while an astonishing 17.3 million viewers tuned in to the season five premiere of the FOX hit House, featuring former In the Heights star Lin Manuel Miranda in a 2-episode guest starring role. But neither came close to the success of Chilean actress Cote de Pablo, whose CBS drama NCIS was watched by a whopping 20 million viewers! The best thing about the numbers is that all three actors played major roles in the premieres of the shows: Miranda was brilliant and heartbreaking as a manic depressive who finds new hope; Vergara was laugh-out-loud funny as a passionate Colombiana who is a fish-out-of-water in America, and Cote de Pablo was superb reprising her role as badass Ziva Davis. I hope this is a wakeup call for the networks: Hire more Latinos!
3. Baby Slayer?: This week, 24 star Freddie Prinze Jr. and his gorgeous wife, Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Sarah Michelle Gellar had a baby that came out looking half like Scooby Doo and half like a vampire! OK, so I’m just kidding, but the cute couple did become the proud of parents of their first daughter this week, a baby girl named Charlotte Grace Prince (has a nice ring to it, don’t ya think?). No word yet on whether Charlotte will aspire to slaying vamps, or to join the Marines. We’ll keep you posted.
4. Things that don’t bite: After pulling big numbers (4.9 million viewers) and having the most watched season premiere in CW network history two weeks ago, The Vampire Diaries (starring my boy Michael Trevino) had an impressive second week with 3.8 million viewers last week. As a result, the CW has now ordered nine additional scripts of the show, according to TVGuide.com. Things are looking great for the CW drama (both ratings wise and critically).
5. America hates models? One show that is not doing great, however, is the CW’s The Beautiful Life, starring Mexican actress Sara Paxton. For two consecutive weeks, the show has tanked in the ratings (big time). And after a disappointing debut two weeks ago, the show came back this week with even less viewers, 1.4 million overall to be exact. It’s a cute show, but it looks like it’s going to get cancelled—and pronto.
