Eva Longoria Parker and Teri Hatcher's 'Housewives' Kiss: Was It Good for You?

Is Eva Longoria Parker jealous that Sara Ramirez gets to kiss girls on Grey’s Anatomy? Probably not. But it certainly seemed like the Mexican starlet was starved for affection, as she planted not one, but two kisses on co-star Teri Hatcher during Sunday night’s much hyped episode of Desperate Housewives.

Here’s how it all went down on Wysteria Lane. In the unremarkable episode (boy, have there been a lot of those this season!), Susan (Hatcher) needs to make amends with her boss, an art teacher named Jessie (guest star Swoosie Kurtz) who is less than pleased with her job performance. Susan invites Jessie over to her place for a friendly dinner, but Jessie—who happens to be a lesbian—mistakes her employee's kindness for flirting and plants a big, wet kiss on an unsuspecting Susan.

Worried that the kiss will get her fired, Susan illicits the help of her girlfriends, Gaby (Longoria) and Lynette (Felicity Huffman), to help her discern what it meant (um, she couldn't figure that out herself?!). Out of nowhere, Gaby lays two kisses on her—one mild, one wild—and asks Susan: “Was it this...or was it this?”

The blink-and-you’ll-miss-it smooches were corny, not to mention completely gratuitous, and over with pretty quickly. But the episode, which was promoted for weeks using the very appropriate Katy Perry single, “I Kissed a Girl,” scored a whopping 14.4 million viewers and squashed the competition. Meanwhile, I couldn’t help but cringe as I watched one of my favorite shows resort to such a shameless ratings ploy. Surely, somewhere Sara Ramirez was cringing too.
