ABC Shuts Down Production On Sonya Walger’s "FlashForward"

ABC

Too bad Sonya Walger didn’t see this coming in her “vision.” According to EW.com, ABC has temporarily shut down production on their new series FlashForward, a drama about a global blackout that left people with a glimpse into their futures.

Although it hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing for the freshman series (the show’s Executive Producer Mark Guggenheim left the series last month, a week before the show fell to a new ratings low), a spokesperson for ABC says the shutdown was always a part of the network’s plan for FF from the beginning. “They started production early so that they could have the luxury to do this…They want to maintain the high quality of the show, and this gives the writers the opportunity to do so.”

Unlike ABC’s alien invasion drama V—which is going on a (gasp!) month long hiatus—Flash Forward will go back into production after just one week. Last month, ABC gave FF a full season order, along with new comedies Modern Family, The Middle and Cougar Town.

I don’t think fans of Flash Forward need to worry too much about this mini-hiatus. It sounds like the show is just trying to make sure that you’ll be getting the best episodes possible, and perhaps Guggenheim’s departure necessitated a short break to get things back on the right track. In the meantime, you can check out FF’s mid-season finale, which airs Dec. 3 on ABC.
